Want to share files with your clients–or your Virtual Assistant

Want to share files with your clients--or your Virtual Assistant? Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your photos, documents, and videos anywhere and to share them easily with one, two, or as many people as you'd like. Never email yourself a file again! Best of all, you can access (and edit) your files with Dropbox via your computer, tablet or phone. I like the convenience of being able to work on my files anywhere - my desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone. Wherever I am, I can tap into any document I have created, as long as I save it to the dropbox. I have a Dropbox folder that I share with MY Virtual Assistant, Jaimie, and she's going [...]

Vacation days are mandatory!

If you are in the northern hemisphere, summer has just ended, and the kids are back to school.  Chances are, you have taken your annual vacation, and you may not have plans for another vacation for awhile.  But what if you could take vacation days every month?  Wouldn’t that be great? Actually, adding in vacation days every month will help you grow your business. I know that seems counter-intuitive, but it’s really true. Think about it. As a coach, you are also a business owner.  Do you have days when you feel like a computer with too many windows open?  Do you sometimes think, “If I only work harder or if I can put in more hours then I will [...]

68 Seconds to Creation!

When I began my coaching practice, I was very intrigued by the concept of manifestation.  I listened to hours and hours of Abraham-Hicks audios.  I read Laura Day, Catherine Ponder and Wayne Dyer, and was very intent on unlocking the secret to instant manifestation.  In fact, this concept still intrigues me to this day. The idea that pure thought, held for a certain period of time, could replace hours and even years of action in the creation process was one that I played with a lot in those days.  In fact, it was said that 17 seconds of pure positive thought energy would equal 2,000 “man-hours” of work, and that if you went to 68 seconds, it would equate with [...]

Self-Acknowledgment and Self-Appreciation

When I became a coach, I learned to practice self-acknowledgment and self-appreciation.  This simple practice has changed my life.  Before I was a coach, I learned the opposite. I was told that it was not humble to acknowledge oneself; that I would get a big head.  Or that it was arrogant to appreciate myself. Now I know the importance of self-acknowledgment.  It is a huge part of my self-care.  I acknowledge myself for my values, my purpose, and my gifts and talents.  I acknowledge my learning, my clarity or my courage in taking risks. When I am appreciating and acknowledging myself, I am able to love others better.  I am able to listen to others and be of service to [...]

Rafting by Tony Watkins

Here is a story by Tony Watkins that exemplifies what it means to be a coach. By good fortune I was able to raft down the Motu River twice during the last year. The magnificent four day journey traverses one of the last wilderness areas on the North Island. The first expedition was led by ‘Buzz’, an American guide with a great deal of rafting experience and many stories to tell of mighty rivers such as the Colorado. With a leader like Buzz there was no reason to fear any of the great rapids on the Motu. The first half day, in the gentle upper reaches, was spent developing teamwork and co-ordination. Strokes had to be mastered, and the discipline [...]

The 18th Camel

When I was in the Arizona State Leadership Program, we heard this story, which is a perfect metaphor for what a coach does. There was a father who left 17 camels as an inheritance for his three sons. When the father passed away, his sons opened up the will. The will of the father stated that: his eldest son should receive 1/2 of 17 camels his middle son should receive 1/3 of 17 camels his youngest son should receive 1/9 of 17 camels As you know, it is not possible to divide 17 camels by any of those numbers. The three sons started to fight with each other. They wanted to divide their father’s estate according to his wishes, but [...]

What do GREAT Leaders Do That Average Leaders Don’t?

I read an article this past summer on leadership in Forbes, and the points make a great case for how we coaches are perfectly poised to help executives become great leaders. I’d like to share a few main points that were really relevant to coaching. The first thing great leaders do is they find purpose. Who better than a coach to help someone find their purpose? In fact, in addition to life purpose, there is a work purpose. In the Leverage for Leaders coach training, we call this the ‘core work contribution.’ When a leader knows what their core work contribution is, it makes it easy for them to lead with passion. Another thing that great leaders do is they develop awareness. [...]
